What is Building with Nature?

Southampton is building. New housing, commercial space, infrastructure. But growth doesn’t have to mean grey.
Across Hampshire and the South Coast, architects, landscape architects and developers are already proving that green roofs, living walls, biodiverse courtyards and rewilded public spaces aren’t luxuries — they are critical approaches that can reconnect people and the environment, increasing ecological resilience.
This initiative aims to bring together urban development professionals, natural world experts, community groups and others with a role in shaping our city environment. It will showcase inspiring work that welcomes nature into urban spaces to inform our reimagining of Southampton.
