This group addresses the growing challenge of emerging chemical contaminants - such as pharmaceuticals, PFAS (“forever chemicals”), pesticides, and microplastics - that threaten water quality, ecosystems, and human health. These pollutants often evade current regulations, originate from diffuse sources, and resist conventional treatment. Building on insights from the 3rd Clean Water South workshop, the group brings together expertise from academia, government, NGOs, community organizations, and industry to develop collaborative solutions.
Input from participants of the 3rd Clean Water South workshop identified a number of challenges. The 4th workshop created a set of project briefs to tackle these:
- How do we prevent pharmaceuticals from entering wastewater and the wider environment? Find the challenge here.
- What can shift behaviour around the use of household cleaning products to tackle water pollution?? Find the challenge here.
The Shared Documents in this team for full workshop 3 output and policy brief for this theme, as well as the project briefs produce in workshop4.
