An all-in-one Transport Planner

The opportunity

Hampshire is home to vibrant, connected communities but when it comes to public transport, the experience is anything but connected.

Bus routes are being cut, county-level support is disappearing and even finding out when the next bus arrives can feel like detective work. In a time of climate concern and community change, we need better answers.

What if we could create a single, smart and community-first transport tool that helps people see, use and shape the services they depend on?

The problem

Public transport in Hampshire has become fragmented and unreliable. Timetables are buried in PDFs or scattered across systems. The County Council is pulling back support and there’s no joined-up, public-facing solution.

This leaves residents (especially in rural or underserved areas) feeling frustrated, stranded and disconnected.

The challenge

How might we turn fragmented transport data into something useful, usable and empowering for local communities?

How do we create a solution that works with the people who rely on it - not just for them?

Who's behind this?

Led by Stuart Jones, a designer, developer and systems-thinker passionate about open data and practical tools, and supported by the Future Towns Innovation Hub, this is a grassroots project with real technical opportunities and a working (paper-based) prototype already live.

If you believe transport should work for the many, not just the few, we want to talk.

Why join us?

If you care about:

  • Accessible, sustainable transport;
  • Community-led innovation;
  • Open data for public good;
  • Designing with (not just for) users.

...then this is your project too.

We’re building toward a publicly useful, scalable and maintainable transport planning tool. One that’s not just technically sound, but socially grounded.

It starts here - with testing, learning and working out what “good enough” looks like together.

Join us

We’re inviting transport users, open data enthusiasts, community groups, coders, policy thinkers and people who simply want to get from A to B, to join us.

Whether you can test a prototype, contribute insights or help us shape the bigger vision, we’re building something by and for the public. This is a live experiment in what happens when tech, community need and local insight meet.

We’re especially keen to connect with:

  • Civic technologists interested in transport and data;
  • Funders and community-minded investors;
  • Bus user groups, youth councils and rural campaigners;
  • Academics or researchers in mobility, sustainability or public services.

If you believe transport should work for the many, not just the few, we want to talk.
