The problem
A historic chalk pit and derelict buildings require funding and specialist expertise to realise their potential as a valuable community and environmental asset.
Our vision
Our vision is to establish an industrial heritage site that will transform into a world-class centre for biodiversity bringing revenue and skills to Upper Clatford.
Our plan
1. Build community mandate
Through local consultations, open meetings and targeted outreach, we aim to shape a shared vision. We will engage residents, local groups and potential users of the site to refine both the concept and delivery strategy, ensuring designs are grounded in community priorities and viable use-cases.
2. Secure funding
We’ll demonstrate grassroots support through crowdfunding, primarily as a signal to funders. This will underpin applications to sources such as the Public Works Loan Board and grant-giving bodies. A phased development approach will ensure scalability and financial resilience.
3. Deliver with expert partners
Using local knowledge, pro bono support, and specialist consultancy, we’ll scope, design, and cost the redevelopment. Pre-development studies are already underway, and architectural concepts are in progress. Our strategy prioritises income-generating units first, followed by community facilities as part of a modular, fundable roadmap.
